Jesus took Peter, James and John up a high mountain to pray. His face shone like the sun, his clothes became dazzling white, and Moses and Elijah talked with him; a voice from a cloud said: 'This is my beloved Son, listen to him.' The Gospels do not name the mountain, but since the 4th century Christians have remembered it here on Mount Tabor. Today a winding road leads up to the Franciscan Church of the Transfiguration on the summit.

Did you know?

Peter wanted to build three shelters. The church on the summit has two small chapels for Moses and Elijah.
