Kana
Water into wine · Israel
At a village wedding in Cana the wine ran out, a real disgrace for the family. Mary told the servants: 'Do whatever he tells you.' Jesus had six large stone jars filled with water, and it became the best wine of the feast, the first of his signs. Today the village of Kafr Kanna near Nazareth has a Franciscan wedding church; another site, Khirbet Qana, is also put forward as the real Cana.
Most pilgrims visit Kafr Kanna, but many archaeologists prefer the ruin of Khirbet Qana, a few kilometres north.
