St Paul's Bay
Shipwrecked on Malta · Malta
On his way to Rome as a prisoner, Paul's ship was caught in a storm for fourteen days and ran aground off Malta. All 276 people on board reached land alive. The islanders showed them unusual kindness; Paul shook off a viper unharmed and healed the father of Publius, the chief official of the island. Today a statue of Paul stands on St Paul's Islands at the mouth of the bay, the traditional place of the shipwreck.
By tradition this bay. The exact place of the wreck is debated among historians.
