Harran
Abraham's stopover · Turkey
On their way from Ur, Abraham's family settled in Harran, in what is now south-eastern Turkey. Here his father Terah died, and here, at the age of 75, Abraham heard the call: 'Go to the land I will show you.' He left his security behind and became the man of faith whom Jews, Christians and Muslims call their father. Today you can walk among the ruins of the old city, next to a village that still lives here.
Did you know?
Harran is known for its beehive-shaped mud houses, a building style that is thousands of years old.
