Jericho
The walls come tumbling down · West Bank
Jericho was the first city the Israelites reached after crossing the Jordan. For six days they marched around it in silence, on the seventh day seven times; then the trumpets sounded, the people shouted and the walls fell. Earlier Rahab had hidden the spies here, a woman who is later named among the ancestors of Jesus. Today you can climb the excavated mound of ancient Jericho, Tell es-Sultan, with a Stone Age tower that is among the oldest buildings known.
