Mount Nebo
Moses sees the Promised Land · Jordan
After forty years in the desert, Moses climbed this mountain and looked out over the land God had promised. He was not allowed to enter it himself: he died here, God buried him, and no one knows where his grave is. His task was not to arrive, but to bring his people to the threshold. Today, from the terrace by the Memorial Church of Moses, you can see the Jordan valley, Jericho and, on a clear day, Jerusalem.
Did you know?
On the summit stands a bronze sculpture of a serpent wound around a cross, recalling the bronze snake of Moses and the cross of Jesus.
